Torre pendente di Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa
June 2008

The leaning tower of Pisa is the bell tower of the cathedral in the Pisa city. Its a small city and it took us about half hour to walk from the railway station to the tower. To reach Pisa, it is best to take a train (we took a local one) from Florence (Firenze) directly to Pisa. It takes about one and half hours if its a local train, and other trains might be faster. We spent about 2 hours at the Tower and so had no time to stand in three hour queues to go up the tower. I believe the tower started leaning due to poor foundation and loose substrate in the southwest direction. It is said to lean about 3.97degrees which amounts to about 4m distance away from the vertical. Well, we finally convinced ourselves that the tower was indeed leaning!
